Born in Haiti, currently lives in Homestead, Florida, with her young daughter and husband. Her most recent publications include Haiti: A Cigarette Burning at Both Ends, published in the acclaimed anthology, Butterfly Ways: Voices from the Haitian Diaspora in the United States, edited by Edwidge Danticat. I'll Fly Away, her first picture book, was published in 1999. Her other picture books include A Fish Called Tanga, 2003; Daughter of the House, 2005; One More Daughter, America, 2006; Keeper of the Sky, 2007, and Beauty walks in Nature 2009, all published by Educa Vision Inc. Her short stories have been published in magazines. The Mango Tree appeared in Compost Magazine in 1994; Light Chocolate Child appeared in Onyx in 1995. Soup Joumou: Diary of a Mad Woman, an excerpt of a novel in progress appeared in 1996 in African Homefront.
