The essays contained in the present book all, one way or another, are related to the life and work of Gérard Pierre-Charles (1935–2004), to his contribution to the social sciences, his analysis of Haiti, Cuba and the wider Caribbean, and to his life-long political work. Pierre-Charles was a devoted scientist and a passionate politician: aspects that we have tried to mirror here. The first essays offer biographical portraits of Gérard Pierre-Charles, the man. These are followed by a section which focuses on his scientific interests, the inspiration he drew from the works of Karl Marx, his involvement with revolutionary Cuba, and his analysis of the Haitian economy. This is complemented by reflections by Pierre-Charles himself on the events surrounding the fall of Baby Doc and an analysis of his political visions. The third section consists of essays inspired by themes analyzed by Pierre-Charles: the degeneration of the Haitian state, the relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic and the lessons learned from the MINUSTAH peacekeeping mission. Finally, the book offers a bibliography of the works of Gérard Pierre-Charles.
A Radiography of Gérard Pierre-Charles: Essays in Memory of a Militant Political Economist is edited by Mats Lundahl, Tania Pierre-Charles Castor and Frantz Voltaire.
