Telugu is one of the ancient languages of South India. When the state of Andhra Pradesh was created in 1956, Telugu became its official language. Recently in 2014, a new state of Telengana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh, and Telugu is now the official language of both these states.
Telugu is originally a Dravidian language. Presently there are more than 100 million people in India and abroad, who know and read Telugu.
The script of this language is close to some other scripts of South Indian languages, but it contains some features of Sanskrit, Hindi and Bengali as well.
